Cleveland Indians face roadblock with name change

An oversight by Cleveland Indians' ownership may leave the club looking for a new name just days after announcing they will be known as the Guardians after this season.

A men's roller derby team by the same name has filed a trademark for "Cleveland Guardians." If approved, they would be protected under federal law to produce promotional material and goods featuring the name.

The Guardians, which were established in 2011, have been an official member of the Men's Roller Derby Association since 2016.

Neither team has made public comment on the matter. Check back for any further updates.
